These include a few versions of “Village Blues” from Coltrane Jazz (1961), two takes of “Naima”, plus versions of “Like Sonny” and “Traneing In” and its title track “Blue World”. The saxophonist went to the Van Gelder Studios with Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones and McCoy Tyner, but only ten minutes’ worth of music made the final cut.Blue World features various takes of five tracks recorded at the session. A previously unheard recording is about to be unveiled by Impulse! Called Blue World, it showcases a selection of older works Coltrane rerecorded with his Classic Quartet in 1964.Coltrane had been approached by the Quebecois film maker Gilles Groulx to soundtrack his film Le Chat Dans Le Sac.
